Because of the Disney Group on facebook, I had a much better understanding and appreciation for the park—the castle, Main Street, etc. Oddly enough we didn’t run across any characters, but we did run across FOOD!! Chile… that Dole Whip changed my LIFFFEEEE!
Picture it: Sicily—I mean, 2 p.m. We had just gotten off of Space Mountain after a 2.5-hour wait. It’s 90 degrees, my feet feel like hot potatoes wrapped in foil, and I remember the Dole Whip. We make a beeline for Adventureland, do a mobile order, and suddenly… the world is a little bit brighter. Sigh. The Florida sun was as unrelenting as an old man tryna send soup back at a Jewish deli. There was no “best” time to go, it’s nearly always hot and always crowded. My saving grace was the Dole whip, Mickey Ice cream bars and lemonade.
I like Disney, but I think the real “Magic” for me were the cast members and the excellence of it all. Everything was beautiful and done in excellence. Every employee we spoke with was kind, joyful and more than helpful. The park landscaping was art all in itself, the topiaries, flowers and overall gardening were amazing! not to mention the smallest details at every turn. I’ve never seen such excellence in real life.
I had done some research, so I had to do a few rides even though my inner ear is not what it used to be..lol. We were able to get onto Mine Train in 40 minutes—no FastPass! Next was Haunted Mansion, Pirates and the Jungle Cruise. Space Mountain was my favorite, but that wait was NOT of God! 😮💨 And no trip to Magic Kingdom would be complete without It’s a Small World. There was no wait because we slid on right after the fireworks ended. Aside from the missing ceiling tiles and wonky 80’s animatronics, it’s what I expected 🥱
Of course I had to snag a lantern pic, and then joined the crowd in the mad dash to the car at closing time.
Thousands of people line up for rope drop starting at roughly 6am. I was not that die hard, I got there a bit after opening. The day was broken into two halves:
At 8 a.m., I was bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to take on every electric mobility scooter and double stroller in my path! Unfortunately by noon, the sun had shown me who was boss and sent me back to the hotel with my tail between my legs. I didn’t officially leave the park the first time until 2pm.
We went back to the hotel for an afternoon nap (after 40, they’re not a luxury but a necessity). I was snoring before my shoes were off—I may have still been standing.
I headed back to the park at 5 p.m., because mama didn’t raise no quitter. I LOVED the park after 8! Less people and not so much Sun. We walked right into a couple of smaller rides, and the breeze was LIFE.
After getting back to the hotel, I had a good soak in an Epsom salt bath with a Tylenol PM in my belly… I was feeling no pain.
Well, good night, good people—I’m about to tear this bed UP!
Epcot is tomorrow.
Overall Magic Kingdom was ok. It was done well, designed beautifully and really put you into a fairytale. It is for smaller children though. Unless you’re a Disney adult there will be few oohs and aahs. Aside from Disney politics, it was a part of my childhood and I am glad I had a chance to experience a company ran so well.
