Wartime in the Mind

When an old thought or imagination pops into your mind out of nowhere, question it. Take that thought captive and bring it to the obedience of Christ. You’re not just thinking self-defeating thoughts—the enemy is shooting darts at your mind to slow you down.

Where else is he fighting you? Right… the fight is in your head.

Say he shoots you the thought that you are rejected—you counter that lie with the Word! You have been ACCEPTED into the Beloved. He says you’re sick, you say, “I am healed.” He says you are broke, you say, “I AM BLESSED.”

Don’t just allow rogue thoughts to waft through your mind. When those thoughts rise up, you have to IMMEDIATELY have a response to the lie. You have to IMMEDIATELY say, “Thus saith the Lord!” He’s trying to see what’s in you and if you really believe it.

The battlefield is in the mind. You are not defeated—you just think that you are. Over half of our challenges come from the wrong thought. We’ve got to change that. We’ve got to renew our minds to the truth of God’s Word and stand on it.

We are the only species that can rewire our brains. None of us are doing anything that we didn’t first think, whether good or bad. That phone you’re holding—it was once a thought. The house you have—it was first a thought.

Take your thoughts more seriously.

That dream in your heart, the one you have for your life—when was the last time you gave it room in your mind and shut down the lie that you couldn’t do it or have it?

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

—Romans 12:2 NKJV

God doesn’t do this for you—YOU renew your mind.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

—II Corinthians 10:4-5 NKJV

Bring the thought captive.

“And He said, ‘What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.’”

—Mark 7:20-23 NKJV

Everything originates from within.

Let’s guard our minds, respond with the Word, and walk in the truth of who we are in Christ. The fight may be in your head, but victory is already yours—one thought at a time.

I’ve been teaching my daughters this. We just talked about it yesterday. To wake up this morning and read your blog about this topic is encouraging. I shared it with them and they both said you explained it very well. Thank you for continuing to write and share the truth about God and ourselves. Grateful for you Kim.
